Businesses need to start adapting their marketing efforts to keep up with the advances in technology. Mobile device adoption rates are increasing at an incredible rate, surpassing 80% in 2016 alone. Even more importantly, average smartphone conversion rates are up 64% compared to the average desktop conversion rates for e-commerce alone. In today's digital and interconnected world, the importance of tailoring marketing efforts so they are mobile-friendly cannot be overstated.
The following are five considerations on the importance of mobile marketing that marketers need to evaluate as part of their digital strategy:
1. Time Spent On Mobile Devices Is Increasing
In 2016, Americans spent an average of 10 hours per day on mobile devices. Nearly a third of this time was spent on smartphones or tablets, according to eMarketer. This means that the average American spends over 500 hours per year navigating websites or talking on their mobile device, providing ample opportunity to capture their attention and get them discussing your business on a device they use so frequently as part of their daily lives. Advertising trends are also responding to this development: It is estimated that by 2019, nearly 72% of marketing dollars will be spent developing apps and advertisements for mobile platforms.
2. Mobile Commerce And Mobile Marketing Go Hand-In-Hand
Consumers are using their mobile devices to purchase items from Amazon, eBay and other e-commerce platforms. Businesses as large as Walmart and as small as mom and pop shops are recognizing this, and developing user-friendly portals and websites to facilitate sales. In fact, it is projected that by the end of 2017, 60% of e-commerce visits will start on a mobile device. Businesses that develop integrated mobile campaigns that guide consumers from product introduction to sale will see a considerable boost in revenue.
3. Shoppers Purchase In Stores
Mobile technology gives consumers the opportunity to shop and compare while they walk down the store aisle. Businesses that have active mobile marketing campaigns can take advantage of this: Search engine optimization and an easily navigable website can give your business an edge when the consumer is ready to purchase. Moreover, search engines are altering their algorithms to give higher preference to mobile-friendly sites. This creates the need for businesses to improve their web presence and tie new forms of automated marketing into their operations.
4. Short Message Service (SMS) Open Rates Are Higher Than Email
SMS has an open rate of 98%, and up to 90% of people who open the message will read it within three seconds. This is far higher than email marketing or other digital channels. Tailoring your SMS messages so they appeal to prospective customers will give them a reason to further research your products or services, and they will likely start on the device in which they just received the message.

5. Mobile Marketing Reaches A Broader Market
Smartphones and tablets are becoming increasingly popular tools for communication across all demographics. They are smaller, lighter, cheaper and more portable than computers and laptops. Manufacturers are also responding to consumer demand and developing faster, more powerful and less expensive mobile devices. These developments mean that marketers have a golden opportunity to put their marketing messages into the hands of their consumers, and mobile allows marketers and advertisers to reach a much wider audience by doing so.
Digital marketing is continually evolving, and mobile marketing plays a key role in that strategy. The shift toward mobile devices is a trend that will continue to progress, and businesses need to ensure they have a cohesive mobile marketing plan to connect with those digital consumers.

Looking to improve your text message marketing campaigns?
You should know the importance of the call to action in text messages. When text messaging, you need to spur recipients to action. And since you only have 160 characters, every word has to count.
What words should you use? Let’s explore the words that are more likely to make your audience want to respond.
Keywords are words that your audience is interested in, and search for on Google and other search engines. But in text messaging, they have an additional meaning: they’re associated with numerical codes, such as “Text SAVE to 40691 to save 20% on your next purchase.”
With these two meanings in mind, you can craft SMS text messages that bring more reaction and engagement in your audience.
Effective keywords According to a number of studies, the most engaging words in text messages are:
A crucial part of building a market is to make your market into a community, with shared values and identity. These words help spark that desire:
Depending on your audience and objectives, you may want to sound rational and objective. The following words emphasize the impression of rationality and absence of bias:
These are just some of the most effective keywords for a text messaging campaign. In the next blog, we’ll look at words that help reinforce the sense of community among our audience.
Update Jan 2019
Please note, after Google shutdown the Nearby App on the Android phones effective December 7th, 2018, it now requires that the user download a custom app that will then communicate to the phones that have the app and Bluetooth turned on and then send them your message or offers.
So, what exactly is proximity marketing?
As the name suggests, proximity marketing is marketing your business to the people in proximity to your business location (store, event etc.). Proximity marketing has been implemented using a number of different technologies like beacons NFC, Wi-Fi, QR codes etc. Beacons have seen the fastest growth trajectory and are expected to dwarf others soon.
What are beacons?
Beacons are Bluetooth transmitters that send notifications to the mobile devices in its range. These notifications can include text, media, links, etc. Businesses primarily use beacons to send marketing campaigns to customers in proximity to them. It is important to understand that beacons don't directly communicate with the mobile device but merely serve as a trigger as indicated by this graphic below.
But does anyone keep Bluetooth on? Is this not an old technology?
Bluetooth as a technology has been in use for a long time for headsets, speakers etc. The new version of Bluetooth that beacons use is called Bluetooth Smart (or Bluetooth 4.0) and differs from the classical Bluetooth (Bluetooth 2.0) because it does not drain your battery and does not need to pair with mobile devices to communicate.
What is the range of these beacons?
The range of the beacon can be set as low as 10 inches or to reach as far as 900 feet comfortably! This means you can engage with a customer who is as far as 900 feet away from your store or decide to focus only on those who are already at the location.
Which mobile devices are compatible with beacons?
All Bluetooth 4.0-enabled devices are capable of picking up BLE signals, these include all iOS devices manufactured since 2013 and all devices with Android 4.3 and above.
Is beacon-based proximity marketing a new concept?
Contrary to what most people think, beacon-based proximity marketing is not a new concept. It is a well-established technology that has a wide reach across the world. In fact, Beaconstac beacons alone are currently being used by marquee brands like Google, Uber, Verizon, KFC, etc., across 40 countries.
It's 2018, how does your mobile list look? Are you capturing every prospect and customer that walks in your door or calls your business so you can send them news, specials and important information again?
If not, why not? If you own a business your most important asset is your customer base. If you have no way to re-connect with them, then how do you expect to stay in business? It's 2018 and its getting tough to be an independent business anymore. With the conglomeration of the largest companies acquiring essentially most of the medium sized businesses, then how do you, as a small business owner compete with this?
Well, we know it to be true. Its list building./ Imaginmg if you had collected every person whom you have come into contact with over the last 24 months. Now imagine if they were on a list that when you sent a message out, your message was read by up to 95% of these people within 90 seconds.
Imagin this message was an offer to do business with you today. And that offer was awesome and ready for actin. Could you imagine that some of these poeple woulf come back to your business today? Well if you can, and you do not have this list, then its time to get on board with Baytech Mobile and it's amazing, award winning SMS/Text software.
Maybe even adding a mobile loyalty program can help speed your data capture up.
So, if you are tired of slow sales, low revenuesa nd need a boost use the SMS Marketing sftware by Baytech Mobile and watch your business turn up the hear!!

Mobile Marketing. This is the term we have been using for over a decade now and we use it for many aspects of digital marketing today.
What is mobile marketing? Mobile Marketing is the act of engaging a consumer on their mobile device, whether it be a phone, a tablet or even on a website being displayed on a mobile device. The days of consumers looking any other place than Google or Facebook or some other digital method is over. Think about the last time you need a car repair, or an HVAC or Plumbing company. Did you rummage through your desk drawers or goto the old yellow pages? Probably not. Why not? because those ways are outdated, slow and just do not serve the needs of the general public any longer,
What does serve the need of the consumer in 2018?
Mobile Marketing listings. What is a mobile marketing listing? Well, think of the last time you searched for anything online. The listings that came up wer business listings that have changed their ways and engage the mobile consumer and more importantly give that consumer the information or service or product they are looking for.
When they visit in the mobile device, which is sometimes as high as 100% of the time for some companies and industries, the way you display your data to them is called mobile marketing. The way you try and capture an email or a mobile number for some sort of information or offer is called mobile marketing. If you engage in retargeting, then displaying ads on the other mobile apps and sites is called mobile marketing.
So, Mobile marketing is a very wide ranging term, however it is important for every business today to make sure their website is responsive, has a SSL certificate and you are getting a chance at collecting consumer information so that you can continue to market to them.
This is the basic definition of mobile marketing. Please check out our other blogs, our SMS software, our Mobile Coupons and our Local Beacon Marketing Solutions to learn even more about the mobile marketing opportunities.
Proximity and beacon marketing is tying the online to brick and mortar
Bluetooth low-energy beacons have been getting a lot of traction over the last few years, and enjoyed particular attention from retailers, giving a new jolt to the development and spread of proximity marketing. If you haven’t encountered the term before, they are transmitters that broadcast their signal to nearby mobile devices and are capable of interacting with them when in close proximity. And judging by the numbers in which they are produced and installed, they are going to become a mainstay of any retail store over the next couple of years – which means that if you haven’t yet jumped on the bandwagon, it is perfect time to do so. Here are some good reasons to do this:
Jim Beck, the President of Baytech Mobile has been programming websites and sending digital marketing messages for over 20 years. He works with clients to help them engage the mobile consumer through mobile and text message marketing solutions and strategies. He loves to help others implement mobile marketing into their businesses He hopes you enjoy this mobile marketing blog as much as he does writing it!
